The incredible powers as well as the frustrating limitations of consciousness and the brain are united in humankind.

Loran explores that paradox by means of visual and spatial work. Evoking a feeling that he calls the sublime* and combining this with the relativizing effects of the physical world, leading to an immersive experience of the moment.

These effects are worked out in subject matter like experiment, nature, light and space (in the universe type-of-way).

*Sublimity, in his own interpretation of Edmund Burke and Emmanuel Kant’s words, is the intimate understanding of personal potential for magnificent feelings and thoughts, combined with the acceptance of human limitations.

Loran Tigchelaar is a 2018 cum laude graduate of the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU), currently working and residing in Arnhem.
